Human Behavior
Watching the attorney’s and the judge in the courtroom is a good way to see just how the law works. When you see the attorney’s body language and how some of them shuffle their papers to try and look important. They shuffle around in their chairs. The judge moves around in their chair and flips their pen. I feel that if you watch the body language and listen to what they say at that time you will learn a lot about how a courtroom works.
Attorney number one (we will call her Sally) was for the defendant, she set real straight in their chair and when talking to the other attorney to put their motion on the table to the judge to have evidence dismissed Sally looked them straight in the eye. She always made sure that what she wanted to get across to the judge and to the respondent’s attorney came through. She always used words that she knew would get her point across, but not large words. I felt that she wanted to make sure that everyone in the courtroom could understand what she was trying to get across to the court.
Sally had everything organized in front of her on the table. She was able to explain to the court in legal terms that needed to be used and also in layman terms so that anyone would be able to understand why she felt that the case being heard should be dismissed.
She had to bring several motions to the court in regards to the evidence that the respondent’s attorney was trying to bring in. She had to prove to the judge that the evidence had nothing to do with the case at hand. She handled herself very well. I could tell from her body language and from how she spoke to the court that she really believes in the person that she is helping. I could also tell when she was getting upset, because her face and neck would get really red.
