It is imperative for any successful company or business to have a human resource management department. A resource is defined as a source of supply, support, or aid, esp. one that can be readily drawn upon when needed. (Dictionary.com)This would mean that human resources are there to support or aid the organizations to whom they are employed and is the key to the organizations success. Within this paper, I will discuss the importance of the management of human resources, factors that affect staffing and steps health care organizations can take to reduce turnover within their organizations.
In the introduction, I informed you that human resources are the keys to an organizations success. If this is true, then the management of such resources would also have a significant importance. People have always been central to organizations, but their strategic importance is growing in today's knowledge-based business world like never before. An organization's success increasingly depends on the knowledge, skills, and abilities of its employees. Particularly as they help establish a set of core competencies which distinguish one organization from its competitors. When employees' talents are valuable, rare, difficult to imitate and organize, an organization can achieve a sustained competitive advantage. Organizations are relying on managers to get the people who get the job done, and of course, make the company money. When human resources are not managed appropriately, then you can have to many or to little staff. Management of resources does not limit yourself to just the numbers of staff but the qualifications that are needed to ensure the staff are trained for the job and will fit into the mold or structure of your organization. If you need a registered nurse that can work a flex shift, you do not hire a nurse’s aide that can only work days with non flexible hours.
