How Did Abraham Lincoln A Success Or A Failure
“What I do say is, that no man is good enough to govern another man, without that other consent.” - Abraham Lincoln. The man who said this quote was Abraham Lincoln, and he believed that slavery was wrong. He was born on February 12th, 1809 in Hodgenville Kentucky, and eventually became the 16th president of the United States of America. During his presidency, he led us through a Civil War. Way before Lincoln was born, slavery was in America. It began first when African slaves were sent over to Jamestown, Virginia. When Lincoln was alive, he did things to try to stop slavery like making Emancipation Proclamation and documents similar, saying speeches to sway people's minds and making people think more about the Civil War as for slavery, which

The secession of the southern states proved to the world that democracy was a failure and that it didn't work. Angered by this fact the Union was determined to show that it did work. So they all fought hard to beat the South and bring them back from this so that they could stand together as a unified country. Lincoln, being the president and completely against the idea of slavery, needed people in the north to think that it was wrong too, made speeches that spoke of how wrong slavery was. An example of a speech that Lincoln said that did this was in the Gettysburg Address. During the battle, many lives were lost so, but the Union finally had a victory, after Lincoln made a speech, in the speech he talked about the idea that all men are created equal, taking the thought from the founding fathers. He said how he thought that this statement was true. People who listened started to think about this then believed it too and thought how slaves are equal too and should be free. Even though his speech was only 2 minutes long and 272 words it touched people hearts and made the nation stronger, and made people think of how wrong slavery
