Film review: Tora Tora Tora!
This film was probably the best account of the attack on Pearl Harbor in my opinion. Though it is old and the effects are obviously fake, it has many true elements. It does not focus too much on the social parts, but more so on the battles and deciphering of messages. I liked the addition of the Morse code section. Not a lot of people knew that Morse code tapping was occurring. Probably the only thing I though could have been mentioned was how quickly the attack came on Pearl Harbor and the destruction of American communication lines. The Japanese Aircrafts had direct orders to destroy the lines of communication to prevent American aircrafts, which were better and more durable in flight, from organizing and flying back in retaliation. I think the filmmakers are just trying to illustrate the American people visually about the occurrences in Hawaii that morning. Also, they know that people love seeing another persons account of the situation, which is why so many WW2 movies highlighting the Pearl Harbor attack have been made. On a scale of 1-10, I would rate this move an 8. It is captivating, but the dialogue is not as impressive at the similar version of the movie called Pearl Harbor which focuses on the love story as well as the fighting. It helps me to understand the severity of the situation and also the long and careful planning that Japan went through to make this mission as successful as possible. Unfortunately, the United States became aware of this attack just a little too late.
Film review: Black Hawk Down
I absolutely hated this movie with a passion! It was nothing but fighting and shooting scenes, in my opinion. And when there was dialogue, it was often interrupted by random shooting. Though I do realize they were heavily bombarded by Somalian soldiers, it is still no reason for cutting out majority of the context. It was difficult for me to watch past the first fifteen minutes of this movie....
