Cuban Americans
Cuban Americans speak a Caribbean Spanish dialect. A lot of Cuban Americans try to learn English to replace their Spanish dialect as a way to rebel against their Cuban heritage and leave behind the bad memories. They are trying to distance themselves from the communist country from which they come.
Though I am sure there are some Cuban Americans in politics, their biggest political movement is with the Cuban-American National Foundation. This group of people fights against any attempts that the United States makes to repair relations with Cuba. They are anti-Castro in all of their beliefs and attempt to sever any ties with Cuba.
The social aspect of Cuban Americans varies. Since the migration of Cubans to America has been stretched out over the years, there are different cultures within the Cuban culture. The older generations are more anti-Castro, while the younger generation is more inclined to fix relations between the two countries. Cuban Americans are accepted just as other Latin groups, and in some cases excel over the other Latin cultures. Cuban Americans tend to stay and live in the same general area, which is mostly in Florida.
The poverty level of Cuban Americans is lower than White Americans, and lower than most other Latin Americans. This is mostly due to fact that they do not branch out much from the rest of the community, since the majority of Cuban-Americans all live in the general vicinity, they have, however, thrived in making their communities prosperous in the term of creating their own country within Miami.
Religion for Cuban Americans is based off of their diverse cultural elements. The base religion is Catholic, however it is a modified version known as Santeria. This religion is heavily influenced by a mix of both Christianity and West African beliefs.
