Hinduism is the world’s third largest religion following Christianity and Islam. It is also known as the world’s oldest organized religions in the history of mankind and also one of the most complex. Hinduism is based on many scriptures. These scriptures speak about the theology, philosophy, and mythology. Most practicing Hindus live in India, Nepal and among the Tamils in Sri Lanka. Hinduism is a way a life and a way of living, not a religion. Hinduism provides philosophical guidance. There is never a specific place or time. Perhaps this is why Hinduism has been able to survive the repeated onslaughts acted by other religious fanatics.
Hinduism, which is really known as the Santana Dharma, Way, or Eternal Truth has a numerous amount of uniting belief systems. Hinduism has a deeply shared sense of morality. Their teachings consist of ahimsa which is also known as non-violence and they also teach the belief of transmigration. These teachings show the interconnection of life. Hindus recognize one God, Brahman. Brahman is the eternal origin who is the cause and foundation of all existence. However, this does not advocate the worship of one particular deity. Hindus recognize many Gods but these Gods represent the different expressions of Brahman. There are three principal gods which are Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva.
Brahma is who created the universe. Brahma is not worshipped the same way as the other gods because it is said that creating the universe was his work and it is done. Vishnu is the preserver and protector of the universe. Vishnu has emerged on the Earth through incarnations to save mankind from natural disasters. Shiva is the one who destroys the universe. Destruction is necessary. without it, there can be no recreation. Shiva is also the source of both good and evil. Combined, they make many contradictory elements.
