What makes Hinduism a religion? In sense Hinduism is really not a normal religion it

is a set of traditions or beliefs that have been passed down from generation for a long

time. There are many different aspects of Hinduism, but they all admire the ancient

scriptures called Vedas. The concept of Hinduism is the belief in the ultimate reality

called Brahman which is the universal soul and its identification with the Aatman which

is the individual soul. The Hinduism belief is that all creatures go through the cycle of

re-birth called reincarnation. This is determined by the principle of Karma. Hinduism has

a belief in many Gods with Brahman being the ultimate God who is formless and infinite.

The most worshipped Hindu Gods are Shiva, Vishnu and Shakthi. The cow is considered

to be a holy and scared animal and is worshipped in the Hindu religion. In the Hindu

religion people usually wear a mark on their forehead or other part of the body.

Hindu women usually wear a dot on the forehead which is called Bindi. Hinduism is

actually based on the worship of idols. These idols are worshipped at a temple or at

home. Hinduism is also associated with many symbols and icons which get their meaning

from mythology, scriptures and cultural traditions. All of the symbols and icons have a

scared implication.

What are the cultural and societal influences that have made Hinduism vital to the

region in which it originated? The cultural and societal influences that have made

Hinduism vital are numerous. Karma, yoga, and spiritual truths are just a few.

Teachings on being moral and living life with the knowledge that ones actions have

consequences is Karma; the practicing of Yoga, which allows one to become in tune

with oneself, leads to a state of peace and contemplation; teachings of spiritual truth

affect change in ways such as using peaceful non-violent measures.
