Religion has been the foundation of mankind since human beings have been aware of their surroundings enough to realize there is a higher power. There are many religions that greatly impact humans and contribute to our daily lives; some religions require complete dedication with each day filled with ritual, discipline and prayer. Hinduism can be considered one of these highly organized and disciplined religions, with prayers sometimes exceeding 5 times a day, and an extremely difficult fasting of up to a month in length.
This review will take a closer look at the history of Hinduism and how time has affected those who practice it. There will also be a few words from a Hindu priest who has taken time to share knowledge of Hinduism’s rich history.

Ramakrishna Rao was kind enough to assist in answering a few questions pertaining to the Hindu religion, which is one of the oldest known religions still being practiced today. I asked Mr. Rao a few questions and have documented his responses to help fully understand Hindu roots in his country.

What are the key celebrations of Hinduism?

Well, Hinduism does not particularly celebrate common holidays that may be known in other religions. Hinduism offers pilgrimage, or festivals, that are not mandatory to a scholar to participate in. There are festivals’s that do show relevance to seasons and specific regions of the country, however. The Holi festival, which is the festival of colors, is a very popular spring festival with makeup of colored powder and formed squirt guns that spray colored and scented water upon festival attendees.
