Description:
According to Herzberg's two-factor theory, we have basic needs (hygiene needs) which, when not met, cause us to be dissatisfied. Meeting these needs does not make us satisfied -- it merely prevents us from becoming dissatisfied. The 'hygiene' word is deliberately medical as it is an analogy of the need to do something that is necessary, but which does contribute towards making the patient well (it only stops them getting sick).
On the other hand there is a separate set of needs which – the motivators - when resolved, motivate people to work to meet personal, group and or organizational goals. These needs are similar to Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, self actualization as it includes gaining a sense of achievement personal growth and development,

Examples from own experience:
Example1:
In one of my previous jobs I worked as a sales representative in which I got a very attractive salary and a good commission related to sales, the working conditions were also great as the duty hours where short. In the first few weeks of my work I used to go to the work with passion and enthusiasm because of the high salary and did not care about all the problems I face but this did not continue for long. The company’s policy was to increase sales whatever the method used, this conflicted with my values. It caused me a great dissatisfaction. In addition to that my line manager was always after me, I felt that he was a spy not a manager. So although the working conditions were great my morale was very low, and consequently I reigned from that job.
Example 2:
I need to be paid on time each month so I can pay my bills. If I am not paid on time, I get really unhappy. But when I get paid on time, I hardly notice it.
