Health Care

The current state of health care in America is corrupt, unfair, and devious. After conducting a fair amount of research on the topic of healthcare I have been able to provide an in depth analysis of why I think America’s health care system is in dire need of reform. Healthcare is being treated as a commodity much like a toaster or a pair of shoes. If you have the money then you can buy it. In 2005, Americans spent $252 billion on prescription drugs because Medicare programs often don’t include coverage for prescriptions. (Grover) America’s health care system is a huge social problem. Over 47million Americans do not have health insurance because of the extremely high costs. The cost of health care is only going up because of how much we spend on health care alone. In 2008, we spent 2.4 trillion dollars on health care, and it estimated that the cost will go up to 4.3 trillion dollars by the year 2016. That’s over 4x the amount we spend on National Defense. Americans are affected by these rising costs every day. Buying healthcare for the unemployed can be very difficult as well as expensive. There are so many choices for medical coverage it can seem overwhelming for some people. It seems like our taxes go up every time someone who is unemployed gets injured because we need to pay for them. Even people who are employed and don’t have health care have to pay taxes for healthcare to help other people. Children are at a higher risk because they are so helpless and cannot afford to provide their own health care. About 8.7 million children in the US are left without health care coverage. There are many programs for kids but most are limited and come with an expensive price tag. Families that can’t provide for their children are looking to less expensive ways to care for them but at the same time the risk is going up because sometimes the fastest and least expensive way out isn’t always the best or safest. 60.4% of the nation’s uninsured children come...
