BUILDING CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGY 2010 Q1-CONCEPT OF GREEN BUILDING/ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY BUILDINGS

G

reen Building is a holistic approach to programming planning, designing, and constructing (or renovating) buildings and sites. Green building is the practice of creating structures and using processes that are

environmentally responsible and resource-efficient throughout a building's life-cycle from siting to design, construction, operation, maintenance,

renovation and deconstruction. This practice expands and complements the classical building design concerns of economy, utility, durability, and comfort. Green building is also known as a sustainable or high performance building. Besides that, all liabilities of materials, water and energy waste, and pollution emissions are converted into economic opportunities through the realization of environmentally sound, healthier and cost effective project. Green building design is a concept that is still at its infancy stage, but one that has been successful in utilizing different aspects of construction, planning, and building technologies that have come up to reduce the environmental impact known to be caused by buildings. The recent past has seen a lot of attention in almost all sectors which not only focus on the green building design but also on the duty of restructuring old patterns to create a healthy and more sustainable environment. Away from the green building design and the use of some building materials in favor of those considered to have little or no impact at all on the environment, the building and construction industry has also seen a shift in how new buildings are designed and meant to function.

However, back then people did not have the information, technology or funds that we have today to make an impact. There are a number of motives to building LEED Certified including, saving energy, using less water, better indoor air quality, and recycling. Not only are the advantages to the environment but they are also reflected in the bottom line, which unfortunately is what everyone really wants to achieve.…

In environmental building design, many of the changes needed are of a technical nature and may involve no more than making different choices over issues such as materials specification. Through simple choices made in design construction, we can do much to reduce building construction impact on the environment. Large volumes of potentially reusable components are landfilled and lost to the system only to be replaced with similar components.…

(ASBEC) suggests that the building sector is directly responsible for around 24% of the total energy use. At present this is split fairly evenly between the residential and commercial building sectors. Reducing energy use and reducing greenhouse gas emissions are both worthwhile goals as it saves money and saves the environment. Reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions has been presented with increasing urgency within recent years as it is driving climate change. There are many opportunities to reduce energy and emissions within the building sector.…

The principal of sustainable building based on efficiency. The concepts of efficiency are paramount to the understanding the practice of building and the application of choosing framing types based on the most desirable outcomes. Regardless of the external environment the practice of building revolves around the acceptability of the interior environment of the building to the occupants and objects therein contained. The pursuit of constructing energy efficient buildings requires the builder, owner or designer to weigh the options available to them to create a structure that is comfortable, energy efficient, economical to build and acceptable for the environment in which the structure is placed.…

ABSTRACT: Today, upon reflecting on the various settings and experiences of our lives, we should be able to find some fairly close matches between characteristics we like and characteristics that would have improved our chances of survival. In our course we perceive that the natural contiguous keeps us healthy and in turn, probably promotes physical performance as well. Occupants of built environments don’t want simply to work, play, eat, or sleep in a functional building. They want to be inspired, invigorated, comforted, and reassured by their surroundings. They want spaces that will make them more appropriate, comfortable. Biophilic architecture offers an exciting opportunity to achieve environmental, moral, social and economic benefits. Much remains to be understood about energy, environmental and life-cycle processes to engage young and enthusiastic researchers in the world-wide greenly architecture community and for those interested in biophilic architecture. The concept of biophilia deserves a deeper explanation. The hypothesis is that this affiliation leads to positive responses in terms of human performance and health even emotional states. The new movement aims to create environmentally friendly, energy-efficient buildings and developments by effectively managing natural resources. Green Building in past years was much too expensive to achieve but due to the fast growing market of sustainable products and methods green building is now very profitable to builders and building owners. The rising popularity of sustainability in construction is proving that it will last and according to Michael Montoya, writer of Green Building Fundamentals, “designers and builders who do not embrace this concept in their business models will soon be left behind.” This is an eye opener for young workers and students in the designing and construction fields. They must start learning the methods of sustainability in order to compete in the new market. Sustainability and eco-friendliness is becoming more popular everyday with the younger…

Green buildings, whether they are homes, offices, or schools, are built to reduce pollution, conserve energy used, and to more efficiently use renewable resources. Several practices that are now used by those “going green” were used long ago. Ancient Greeks built homes structured to attract solar heat during the winter months. Green buildings (aka sustainable buildings) ideas became much more popular during the 1990s. In 1992 the first green building program began in Austin, Texas, the following year the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) was founded and in 1998 they launched the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) which is a green building rating system and certification program that is nationally accepted.…
