Graphic software is program that used for graphic design, image editing and image development on computer. Art software uses either raster graphic or vector graphic to read, create and edit images. Nowadays, many creative professionals use computers rather traditional media. Graphic software requires less hand-eye coordination and less visualization skills than traditional art. However, computer graphic art require learn more of computer graphic skills than traditional visual art. Graphic art software includes many common functions, such as, hue/saturation, brightness/contrast, multiply, and lighten. Most of the software is designed to enhance a specialized skill or technique.

General image development software includes traditional medium effect, photo-realistic effects, hyper-realistic effects, and graphic format handling.

Traditional medium effects are ideal for solid crisp line art, poster, woodcut ink effects and mosaic effects. General image editors like Photoshop is designed for photo editing, which also used for digital painting; Coral Painter and Photo-Paint are designed for digital painting and evolve with some hand-rendering styles.

Photo-realistic effects create the reality of photographed image. Software contains 3D modeling and ray tracing features to make images appear photographed. Photoshop may be used to create 3D effects from 2D images. Add Depth is a forbidden software for editing 2D images into 3D images with the option of beveled effects. MetaCreations Detailer and Painter 3D are also software that is discontinued; they are designed for painting texture maps on
3D Models.

Hyper-realistic effects are the combination of traditional medium effects and photo-realistic effects; which allow artists to apply different unique styles to create purely photo-realistic images.
