Abstract
Is becoming a good teacher a natural progression after college graduation? The answer is no, but a good teacher can be taught. In this paper an example of a good teacher and the impact his teaching skills made on the writers life will be explored. Following the reflection on a good teacher will be an example of Piaget’s teachable moments. A teachable moment can come about at anytime. Depending on the age group of the child is how one should address the moment.

Characteristics of a Good Teacher and Teachable Moments
Teachers are responsible for helping to shape the lives of young, impressionable children. Consequently, all teachers should strive for what can be considered to be a “good teacher.” This essay discusses the writer’s personal view on the characteristics of a good teacher. Through the information presented in the required reading and other available sources, the writer will discuss a teacher who she believes to have been a model of a good teacher. An example of a teachable moment will be discussed as a child is crossing from one developmental stage into the next as described by Piaget. The writer will explain how two groups may view the same situation differently.
