Integrity Integrity is the foundation on which all values, business or personnel, are based. One cannot truly act with integrity if they do not possess core baseline ethical values. Integrity is a value that is built upon by a lifetime of achievement which can be given away with one wrong choice. I have made some wrong choices early in my life which I am still working on to this day to rebuild. Integrity is not only making the right choices, but holding yourself accountable to all that it encompasses. At work, it is keeping focused on the task or person at hand without letting my mind wander to other topics. A simple lapse in either environment may lead to giving up some of the integrity that I work so hard to uphold.
Honesty To succeed in life and business, honesty is must. In my previous position, members of the management staff blatantly lied right to my face. Those who lie in their personnel or business life are destined to fail once the lies catch up with them. This value is self-evident. Lying is unacceptable in business and in life. I must practice caution when sought out for answers that I do not know. In these situations, I remind myself that it is all right to not have the answer. As a follow up, I do make a promise to find an answer to the question or direct the person to the subject matter expert.
Fairness My mother always taught me to do unto others as you wish others to do unto you. In my profession, I work with people from the front line all the way to the CEO. In my conversations and dealings with each person, I treat everyone with equal respect. It is disappointing to see my co-workers treat people as lesser being because of job function they perform with the business. All though I strive to treat everyone fairly, I must still hold steadfast to my beliefs of equal treatment. I constantly remind myself that everyone's opinion matters and deserves the time and effort to actively listen and entertain all new ideas and concerns.
