1. Rhythm
Medival- No definate meter some pieces use rhythmic modes.
Renaissance- Even steady flow without a clear sense of beat.
Baroque-Strongly metrical with regular patterns of beats.
Classical- metrical with regular patterns.
Romantic- free speeding up slowing down tempo rubato. metrical rhythm less structural.
20th century-polyrhythms, poly meters, irregular rhythm patters.
2. Melody
Medieval-mostly chant like with limited range some pieces with severval short flowing notes one word or syllable.
Reanaissance-flowing adjacent notes with in a somewhat limited range.
Baroque-expressive reciting style. wuite a few virtuoso passages in vocal and instrumental music.
Classical -short phrases in four or eight beats.
Romantic-passionate flowing sweeping expansive.
20th century-wide range to voices and instruments fragmented, exotic intervals and scales.

Medival- monophonic texture very little to no harmony.

Baroque-tonal in major and minor, tonal center can modulate, basso continuo.
Classical-homophonic texture.
Romantic-rich chords which contains more notes.
20th century-extreme dissonance, polychords, and chord clusters.
4. Dynamics
Medival-restrained and rather soft.
Renaissance-restrained and soft.
Baroque-loud and soft terraced dynamics in instrumental work.
Classical-crescendos and decrescendos, loud and soft throughout piece.
Romantic-pulsing quality change more frequent, and diminuendos.
20th century-all previous techniques still used, extreme effects including silence.

Medival-monophonic and polyphonic.
Renaissance-polyphonic.
Baroque-polyphonic (contrapuntal) and homophonic
Classical-homphonic melody with chordal stream of music, running figures.
