The Great Gatsby
In the book “the great Gatsby” by Scott Fitzgerald there are
many themes yet there is one theme that sticks out. In each of
the characters we see a dream. Each of these characters are
guilty of corrupting their own dreams with their own actions. The
American dream is that anyone no matter who they are can
achieve whatever they want as long as they work hard to achieve
that goal whatever it may be. This book shows what generally
happened to the American dream in the 1920’s.
the corruption of the American dream is shown in Gatsby, In
myrtle, And in George.

While this man seemed to “have it all” and was very happy, Gatsby
Really was not happy at all. This man is nothing but a fraud.
When people go to his extravagant parties they sometimes wonder
who this Gatsby character is. He would throw all of these
Expensive parties and supply alcohol to anyone who came. Mind you
In the 1920’s there was ban on alcohol being consumed and having
it at parties. Having it there brought forth questions of where he
managed to get his hands on enough for everyone at his parties
from. Gatsby found this lady who attended his partys who he
wanted to have for himself. “Her voice is full of money.”(page
127) The only real reason that Gatsby wanted this girl who’s name
was daisy was because she reminded him of money. This is only
the beginning of Gatsby’s corruption. When people began to come in
to his house and ask questions he would tell them lies to make
him look like he is someone that he is not.
