The Franklin D. Roosevelt presidential era of (1933-1945) was probably one of the most recognizable presidencies. This president had to deal with many hardships during his presidency, one being that he was elected during the height of the Great Depression. This great president brought hope and aspiration for the country and demanded swift action to get the country out of the depression.
In 0ctober of 1929 Black Friday occurred, the president at the time was Hoover. The stock market crash affected the economies of the whole world. President Hoover did not do anything to try and fix the problem of the stock market crash. However when President Roosevelt came into office the country had already been in the depression for four years.
In Roosevelt’s First Inaugural speech towards the nation, the president was very assertive and recognized there being a very serious problem going on in the world that needed to be dealt with. In this speech he stated probably one of the most famous sentence in history which is “…the only thing we have to fear is fear itself.” The president wanted to raise the morale of the country, and he wanted to do this by implementing his New Deal plan.
This New Deal brought upon many changes to the country, this plan opened new doors and would establish new programs to help get the country out of this depression and to try and prevent any future occurrences. The implementation of several plans like the Tennessee Valley Assoc. which brought government sponsored jobs to people that needed places to work, and the T.V.A. project also helped because by establishing the dams that were being built it would create electricity. Another program that was setup was the F.D.I.C., which was an insurance agency setup up to promote people to deposit there money into banks again and would insure a certain amount of money put into the bank.
