Tramar Dillard also known as Flo Rida initially received national attention when his first monster single, "Low," exploded seemingly out of nowhere in late 2007. Flo Rida went on to receive the People's Choice Award for favorite Hip-Hop Song as well as landing his first two Grammy nominations. His album Mail On Sunday went on to go gold in Australia and Canada and established Flo Rida as one of the most multitalented MCs to hold the mic. The world wide embrace was the result of years building his skills and standing on the underground circuit. What makes his music so appealing to a wide range of people is the fact that the words are so catchy and the songs have a dance beat that is easy to move to. With an almost eerie facelessness, the Miami rapper inhabits the songs like Armani suits bought off the rack. Flo Rida possesses a skilful double-timed flow, but his greatest achievement is his understanding of how to stay in the background, never overwhelming the electro-laced tracks.
He performed at the Powerstation in Auckland on the 10th September 2009. What a night it certainly was, as I stood in the front row awaiting the show to begin I felt anxious and excited to get the party started. Opening acts such as J.Williams and Jessica Mauboy certainly started the night off, being native artists in New Zealand made them known to the crowd straight away. The lights went down, the song started playing the crowd went wild and on came Flo Rida. I have never heard a louder scream than what I heard when he came onto the stage, probably because I was screaming in excitement myself. Everyone started pushing trying to get a closer look at the man himself. He began by talking to the audience maybe for a bit longer than he should, asking them if they are ready for a great night, which caused more screaming of course.
