Five Components of Fitness

The five components of fitness include flexibility, cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, muscular endurance, and body composition. The first component is flexibility. Flexibility is the ability to move your joints through a full range of motion. Exercises that can be done to improve flexibility would be a forward bend to touch the toes and lunges. To test flexibility, you can preform the sit and reach. Another component of fitness is cardiovascular endurance. Cardiovascular endurance is basically how strong your heart is and how much aerobic exercise you can do. Jogging and swimming and other aerobic conditioning can improve cardiovascular endurance. A mile run can be used to test cardiovascular endurance. Muscular strength is the amount of force a muscle can exert. Lifting weights can improve muscular strength and so can bench presses. Push-ups may be used to test muscular strength. Push-ups can also be used for muscular endurance, but muscular endurance and strength are very different. Muscular endurance is needed when you do physical activity for a long time and you require extra effort. Muscular endurance the force you exert on muscles over a period of time. Exercises to improve muscular endurance would be similar to cardiovascular endurance exercises. Running for a long time could help and long sets of push-ups could help too. Sit-ups can be a test to measure muscular endurance. The last component of physical fitness is body composition. Body composition is basically what you body is made of which includes bones, muscle, and fat. Body composition can be measured by many different ways. The most common way to test your BMI is the pinch test. Exercise can help lower body fat percentage.

Another component of muscular fitness that is crucial is muscular endurance, which is the ability to perform a specific muscular action for a prolonged period of time.
