In todays world we see thousands of leaders and managers. But in order to be a great leader or manager, you need to have the proper traits to be able to use your skills to lead a firm and its employees to the top. I will be discussing with you today about two of the most successful and great leaders to have lived in the business world. I believe that both Steve Jobs and Bill Gates changed the world for the better, and their great leadership skills are what helped bring themselves and their companies to the top. Steve Jobs and Bill Gates used their leadership skills, communication skills, and emotional intelligence/IQ skills to get to the top. These two great men will go down in history as great leaders and innovators that changed the way humans live today.
But first I want to briefly discuss the difference between a manager and a leader. A manager is an individual who is in charge of a certain group of tasks, or in charge of a certain subset of a firm. A manager often has a staff of people that report to him/her. A manager motivates his/her staff, provide directions that need to be taken to reach the company’s goals, and removes roadblocks that come forth at the firm, and provides feedback to his/her staff and the management above him/her. A leader on the other hand is more complicated, and is a combination of a manager and a leader. An international leader not only needs to possess the skills and knowledge of a manager, but he/she needs to be a born leader(in my opinion), who knows how to motivate and bring out the best of his/her people. That person needs to put forth others before himself/herself, and needs to do what’s best for the people/firm. A true leader is a people’s person who is both a manager and a politician. You can be made into a manager with the proper training and guidance, but in order to be a great leader, you have to be born with the skills.

When I first came to Silver Lake College I didn’t know what to expect. All I knew about the school was that it was a private catholic liberal arts college. At that time I never gave any though to what “liberal arts college” meant. Now that I’ve been at Silver Lake for two years and had liberal art classes, I have a better understanding of what a liberal arts education is and how it can make a difference in a person’s life. This synthesis paper will allow me to express my experience thus far with the liberal arts and summarize goals that I’ve set and achieved during my undergraduate program. I will also be able to summarize my service…

In today's world technology began to play a major role in people's lives in many ways. Technologies such as computers, cell phones, iPads, etc. give people an opportunity to get away from the real world. Other technologies, especially medical technologies have advanced so much that people are able to get DBS, deep brain stimulation, which is a surgery that implants a medical device, to improve their brain and to help them live a better life. But after the surgery does the person become more or less authentic? In Lauren Slater’s essay “Who Holds the Clicker?”, Slater studies the symptoms and experience of thirty-six years old Mario Della Grotta, who is diagnosed with obsessive – compulsive disorder, or OCD. He suffers from a live of looped-loop in which he repeats actions fearing incompleteness. In Sherry Turkle’s essay, “Alone Together,” Turkle explores the idea of authenticity and how in the future robots could offer humans better relationships as well as a better life. We ask how much technological control is too much control and whether these growing advancements in technology shape our ethical choices and issues. Society is vulnerable to technology; technology meets our human needs and because of that technology has complete control of us today. One can argue that after DBS surgery people become more authentic because they are new and improved. But in actuality, chemical and surgical “improvements,” especially of the brain, make people less authentic, but are justified if the improvements are medically necessary.…

I consider Bill Gates and Steve Jobs to be the greatest leaders in American business. Over the past 25 years, technology was the industry of choice for many of the top business people. Microsoft 's Bill Gates and Apple’s Steve Jobs both exemplify the explosion in that realm. Gates, Microsoft chairman and world 's richest man, is the No. 1 business leader of the past quarter-century for his mix of entrepreneurial energy, dogged leadership and philanthropic interest. The points that make them great leaders are the fact that they were both great visionaries. For example Bill Gates vision was that “Every business and household must have a computer and must run Microsoft software” while Steve Jobs vision was “to make the best devices in the world, not to be the biggest”. Other important point was the fact that they considered failures to be learning lessons. Bill Gates quoted in one of his conferences that “Your most unhappy customers are your greatest source of learning”. Another important point that distinguishes them from being managers is the ability to recognize an opportunity and the ability to capitalize on that opportunity. Inspiring trust within the employees of an organization is also a key feature of a leader, a feature that was well executed by both Bill Gates and Steve Jobs. It was there leadership qualities as well as their managerial skills that enabled them both to be huge business successes.…

Art is one aspect of the past that has carried on for decades. Art in any form may it be poetry, novels, and playwright, sculpting as well as painting, has been an outlet for generations and continues to be an outlet and a means for expression. This paper will discuss “ The Mona Lisa” one of Da Vinci’s most famous paintings, as well as another great painting, Antonio Veneziano’s “Virgin and Child”(c. 1380). I have had the opportunity to volunteer for the last several weeks. I had never really volunteered before, so I knew that this was my opportunity to do some community service to help others. I have found through the experience that I really like to volunteer, so in the near future I will probably volunteer on my own, rather than doing it for a class. Doing service projects is a great way to get involved with the community. There are always people and businesses looking for help, and it is usually easy to find a way to help. When I had to do volunteer services for psychology, I was excited because I had never really volunteered for a long period of time. It was very interesting, because it actually made me feel like a better person for helping someone in the community. I volunteered at the Manchester Church of the Brethren Preschool. I chose that place, because I am an education major, and I thought that it would help me be able to work with children. I love working with children every chance that I can. While I was volunteering/observing, I learned many things that involved psychology. Psychology obviously relates to human’s, so it was neat to put it into a different perspective, because I got to look at 4 and 5 year olds, to see how the subjects that we were recently discussing in class, pertained to them particularly. Children learn very quickly, at a young age so I had a great opportunity to see that first hand. It was neat to relate all of the things I learned in class, to the actual students I was observing.…

To quote my initial thoughts paper “Special Education is a universal term describing education that is provided to children with a range of various disabilities.” In final thoughts, the answer to “What is Special Education?” is not so much changed but dramatically enhanced. Special Education is a general term to define the type of education provided to children with disabilities or other special learning considerations beyond that of the “normal” student. According to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEA), …”special education and related services designed to meet…unique needs and prepare…for further education, employment and independent living.” According to our textbook, under IDEA, schools are required to provide appropriate educational services to students with disabilities and to actively involve parents in the educational process. IDEA provides the legal basis for the current special education services provided in public schools. (p5)…
