Born with Kavasam and Kundalam (Armour and ear-rings), and bequeathed as a gift from the Sun God to an unwed Kunti (M. V. Rajamma), Karnan is abandoned so as to prevent embarrassment for her. He is set afloat in the Ganga, rescued and adopted by a charioteer, who is employed withDhritarashtra, the blind king. Years later, the now-grown up Karnan (Sivaji Ganesan) realizes that the charioteer is his foster father only, thus heartbroken. He however masters archery and challenges Arjun (R. Muthuraman) at a contest. When Karnan is insulted on account of his birth,Duryodhan (S. A. Ashokan) defends him and accepts him as his partner. Karnan is eventually crowned the king of Anga.
At one time, Lord Indra, the rain god and king of heavens, disguised as an old Brahmin, goes to Karnan and asks for his Kavasam and Kundalam indaanam (donation). Indra was apprehensive that Karnan, by virtue of his phenomenal skills as a warrior, may be able to overwhelm Arjun. He therefore asked for this gift so as to reduce his strength. Karnan had been cautioned by the Sun God that Lord Indra was going to make some such move. But Karna is so large hearted that he cannot refuse anyone. Knowing fully well, that Indra was playing a trick on him disguised as a Brahmin, he yet parts with his Kavasam and Kundalam, which were parts of his body since birth and which made him invincible. Lord Indra is taken aback at Karnan's capacity to give away anything asked for. He tells that what Karnan has done today, no ordinary mortal could have done. Immensely pleased with Karnan's generosity, Indra lets him ask for any varam (wish). Karnan asks Indra to kindly give him the weapon Shakti which has the potential to destroy any enemy. Lord Indra gives Shakti to Karnan with the proviso however that he could use it only once and that thereafter the weapon shall return to Lord

She soon gave birth to a son, Sundiata Keita, who was unable to walk throughout his childhood. Despite his physical weakness, the king still granted Sundiata his own griot at young age; this was in order to have them grow together and provide constant consultation as was custom.[1] With the death of Naré Maghann Konaté (c. 1224), his first son, Dankaran Tuman, assumed the throne despite Konaté's wishes…

In the Victory over Vritra, the myths involved seem to have an overwhelming biased when the story telling begins. Vritra is obviously the unflavored, while Indra is clearly the opposite. Indra is described as a noble warrior, while Vritra is portrayed as a coward and fool to challenge such a god like Indra1. Indras powers are also depicted as all-powerful and swift. The way Indra deals his blows is described in such a way that Vritra is the god that is at a disadvantage. Indra deals a blow from his thunderbolt and this defeats Vritra in a sequence of what can only assumed to be a couple of minutes1. In the hymn, Who Is Indra, the writers take a much different approach to describing gods. In this hymn, the gods are portrayed in a much more…

When it comes to handling evidence, wearing latex gloves play a major role in that aspect. Contamination of any evidence can corrupt a scene to the point where it would let a criminal walk free. And as far as contamination goes, once evidence is contaminated it can’t be replaced of repaired, than it would not be admissible in court. When you use latex gloves it helps preserve the condition of the crime scene. Wearing those gloves protects the investigator from leaving any imprint of theirs at the crime scene.…

From Gotama Buddha, Siddhartha realizes he would rather walk his own path than follow another's. After pursuing Buddha's followings with his companion Govinda, Siddhartha has a revelation while he is conversing with Gotama. " 'That is why I am going on my way- not to seek another and better doctrine, for I know there is none, but to leave all doctrines and all teachers and to reach my goal alone- or die' "(34). This quote shows how Gotama has influenced Siddhartha to seek Self unaccompanied, marking a significant turning point in Siddhartha's journey. Subsequent to Siddhartha's encounter with Buddha, he meets a beautiful woman named Kamala who drastically changes him. The author of Siddhartha explains in detail how the title character slowly takes on characteristics of average citizens while living with Kamala. "Gradually, along with his growing riches, Siddhartha himself acquired some of the characteristics of the ordinary people, some of their childishness and some of their anxiety"(77). At this point in the novel, Siddhartha begins to be disgusted with himself, and recognizes that life with Kamala is not the place he should be in to find peace. Shortly after he apprehends this, Siddhartha leaves Kamala only to find a peaceful Ferryman, named Vasudeva who introduces Siddhartha to a river. In the following quote, Vasudeva explains to Siddhartha the power of the river that they live by. "'The river knows everything; one can learn everything from it'"(105). This quote…

I have selected an externship with “Extern Organization Name” because the sponsor is the Head of Litigation at a large law firm. As I stated above, law is an area that I am interested in but, unfortunately, have not had much first-hand exposure to. My parents studied biology and engineering in college and we have no lawyers in the family. By shadowing this sponsor, I would, first of all, be able to see up-close what law is all about, specifically litigation, and also see the day-to-day functioning of a prominent NYC law firm. Since this is a very large law firm, I imagine I would also have the opportunity to interact with lawyers with other specializations as well. In addition, I am curious to know why the sponsor thinks the practice of law is a splendid way to spend one’s working life.…

Apart from the traditional human weapons like swords, daggers, spears, clubs, shields, bows, arrows and maces, and the weapons used by the gods (such as Indra's thunderbolt Vajrayudha), the texts mention the utilization of various divine weapons by various heroes, each associated with a certain god or deity. These weapons are most often gifted to semi-divine beings, human beings or the rakshasas by the gods, sometimes as a result of penance.…
