Ethical Filter Worksheet


Value--Respect

Personal Source--My experience is that if you have self-respect, then you gain other’s respect. I had an old supervisor who used to let the employees talk to her any way they wanted to. The longer I worked there, the more I fell into the same routine as my co-workers regarding speaking anything to my boss.

Justify Place on the List-- “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” It is the Golden Rule. When people have respect for themselves and one another, it avoids conflict. This, in turn, makes for better productivity.

Value--Fairness

Personal Source--People that are fair do not wait for the truth to come to them; they seek out the necessary information before making important judgments. My boss at Dow Chemical on the Project was the fairest person I have come into contact with in a very long time. There were some issues regarding rumors about my interaction with other employees. He sat everyone down, listened to their sides of the story, then came to a rational decision. He used fairness in not judging when making a decision or listening to everyone speak.

Justify Place on the List--A person, corporation or company, even society as a whole should do its best to resolve problems and issues in a fair and just manner. It is not right to make fun of, or take advantage of other people.

Value--Trustworthiness

Personal Source--The treasurer at my current job has come to trust the decision I have made regarding the supervision of others. She gave me just enough rope to hang myself and instead of doing that, I have proven myself beyond a shadow of a doubt. She put me in charge of several projects and I have completed them all on time and to her likings.
