The first thing I notice when I open the website are the scores to the MLB games. I decided to visit ESPN because that is the sport media website I visit the most. ESPN changes their main focus depending on the date. For example, during different sport seasons there will be different headlines. The NFL goes from Septemeber to January(sometimes February). However, it is not always NFL during those months. Football is played on Thursday, Sunday, and Monday. Occasionally there will be a major event that is somewhat football related on a different day of the week but generally the NFL is only the main focus on Thursday, Sunday, and Monday. Major League Baseball is the major focus from April to October. The MLB games occur all throughout the week from Monday to Sunday. Typically if nothing extraordinary happens, ESPN just posts the score of the games. A major headline happens for the MLB when a no-hitter or a perfect game is thrown. Sometimes ESPN creates headlines for specific players like Derek Jeter. Jeter is retiring this year and has been one of the most famous baseball players from the last two decades. The NHL follows up right after the MLB and is competing with the NFL for ESPN headlines. The NHL season begins in October and ends in June. The NHL has grown popularity very rapidly in the United States of America. However, they still aren't as popular as the NFL whom they are competing with for headlines and news articles. The NBA starts in November and ends in June. Currently, there is little to no coverage on the NBA because it is not the season. The NBA does get a lot of media coverage when it is in season though. In the U.S, the NBA usually sees more media coverage than the NHL when the two are both in season. Similar to the NHL and MLB, there are games all throughout the week. The stories currently being covered are Major League Baseball, college football, and pro football. The main headline story is the Atlanta Braves

One famous game in NHL history was the Easter Epic of 1987. That game was game 7 of a series between the Washington Capitals and the New York Islanders. It went into 4 overtimes. The game was started on April 18(that’s why it was nicknamed the Easter Epic) and ended on April 19, Easter morning. It is now the longest game 7 in NHL history. Another great game during the NHL season is the Winter Classic. It is, actually, relatively new. The very first Winter Classic was played between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Buffalo Sabres in Ralph Wilson Stadium in Orchard Park, New York on January 1, 2008. The game is pretty much always played on New Year’s Day every year. The star player of the Pittsburgh Penguins at the time, and still is now, was…

America has always used sports to help with dealing of difficult times and emotions. 9-11 was just another prime example. America first clung to sports during the Great Depression, to show that we can move forward from whatever is thrown at us. We took the same approach in 2001. The New York Yankees, predominantly hated by America, had become America’s team. The entire country (minus Arizona) were beginning to support the “Evil Empire”.…

First, baseball is played in the summer. It is more than a sport, it is a gathering. It has a social appeal that football will never have because the majority of it is played in the warmth of the sun. There is a reason they call them the “Boys of Summer.” We gather with family and friends, eat hot dogs, drink beer, and enjoy tie with our family with the kids out of school. Football games do not…

Baseball as a sport is considered to be America's pastime. Nothing beats sitting at your favorite ballpark, with a hot dog smothered with ketchup and mustard in one hand and an ice cold beer in the other hand. This scene is symbolic to the American culture. Baseball has seen its fair share of changes, from the dead ball era, to the expansion era, where we see different races from around the world coming to america to play this great game we know as baseball. Baseball has always been popular in the united states and always will be. The game has been around for 172 years and is just as popular now than it was when it was first introduced in 1839. People argue today that American football, not soccer, is now becoming more of the “American” sport than baseball. Baseball represents more of what america is, does not have a sole purpose of a means for a social gathering of people, and has more integrity than the game of football.…

One of the biggest misconceptions heard about the game of baseball is that it is practically dead. A lot of people in America will assume this because of the downward trend in TV ratings or because kids aren’t being hooked to the game as they once were. One of the things that these people don’t understand is that TV has changed drastically from what it once was. Nowadays every single baseball game can be seen on TV because of the variety of channels available and because of the different streaming options available to fans. When baseball was first broadcasted on TV it was nothing like it is today and there would usually be one or two games per week. The reason the ratings have gone down is because of supply and demand, since there is so much…
