Effects on Work
Because work is part of the reality for human being to survive in this world, people might work five days per week or even longer of time. People keep busy with their job. In general, some people are satisfied with their job, some of them might not. To able to support their families, people must work very hard to earned money. They thought work is way to making money. Indeed, lack of education, paid higher taxes, work experience, and job skills might cause people working harder. However, work can be liberate the worker that if another respect worker’s personal dignity and provide a better working condition for workers. On the other hand, how does work enslave the worker? Works bring physical or mental illness to worker who performs menial tasks for another.
Work can be liberating if people respect worker’s dignity. In the article Work Makes Life Sweet, Bell Hooks mentioned about the vast majority of black women in the United States know in girlhood that they will be workers. (641) she talks about the reason why African American women are not satisfied with their jobs because they had been stereotyped by sexism and racism. There are two kinds of jobs for black people who live in a racist society: basic service jobs and cheap labors. However, this was a tradition for black people who live in racist society. On other hand, African American women considered that white people should be respect to them because they work so hard to make money to support their families. As black women who live under racist society, they are not satisfied with their jobs. However, because lack of education, they couldn’t found better job. Certainly, if those women had been respected by another then their life could be much happier.
