Statement: Embryonic stem cells should be made available for scientific research
There exists a widespread controversy over embryonic stem cell research that emanates from the techniques used in the creation and usage of stem. Embryonic stem cells are stem cells derived from the inner mass of a blastocyst. A blastocyst is an early stage embryo approximately 4 to 5 days old in humans. Embryonic stem cell research is particularly controversial because, At present the only known way to derive embryonic stem cells involves the destruction of a blastocyst-stage embryo. Some people are opposed to this research because they consider the blastocyst to be morally equivalent to a human individual. Opponents of the research also argue that this practice is tantamount to the instrumentalization of a human being. In contrast, medical researchers in the field argue that it is necessary to pursue embryonic stem cell research because the resultant technologies are expected to have significant medical potential, and that the embryos used for research are only those slated for destruction anyway. ES cells should be made available for scientific research because it have the potential to develop into all 210 kind of cells in human body ranging from muscle to blood to nerve. It also consists the potential to provide an unlimited amount of tissue for transplantation therapies to treat a wide range of degenerative diseases. ES cells have capacity to identify drug targets and potential therapeutics.
