The Effects Of Human-Caused Global Warming

Major climate changes have been noticeable over the past two decades. We have experienced catastrophic weather events such as the terrible tsunami in Indonesia and Hurricane Katrina. Parts of Europe experience extreme flooding, while most of Africa and Australia experiences extreme draught. In the United States we have seen more wildfires than ever before in history. The carbon dioxide gas has increased substantially over the past 20 years. Could there be a link between the extreme weather and the increase in carbon dioxide in our atmosphere? Worldwide, scientists and governments are now coming together to create ways to reverse the effects of human-caused global warming before disastrous environmental consequences occur.

Is Global Warming A Myth Or Fact?

There are theories that politicians and special interest groups claim environmental crisis is inevitable in order to help their governments grow. This supposedly helps justify a government’s expanded role and pleases their frightened constituents. Claims are made that scientists are misinforming the public for reasons like job security and notoriety. Politicians openly criticize the environmental scientists for being pawns of big business or joining the bandwagon. According to Senator James Inhofe, "Over the last century, the media has flip-flopped between global cooling and warming scares. At the turn of the 20th century, the media peddled an upcoming ice age - and they said the world was coming to an end. Then in the 1930s, the alarm was raised about disaster from global warming - and they said the world was coming to an end. Then in the 70's, an alarm for another ice age was raised - and they said the world was coming to an end. And now, today we are back to fears of catastrophic global warming - and again they are saying the world is coming to an end" (Faulkner, 2007, para. 6). Even though skeptics do not believe global warming is real, no one can deny that environmental science has progressed...
