Dane Nero Music 250 Professor White March 10, 2009 Cultural Event Concerts have always been one of my favorite pastimes. Since I was 5 years old, I have been attending concerts from gospel to hip hop. Hip Hop has to be one of my favorite concerts to attend because the energy and mood of the atmosphere is amazing, and it almost gives you a high; everyone is feeding off the energy that the performer gives leaving you with a great deal of excitement and it’s a place where people who share similar interests, styles, and backgrounds can come together to enjoy music. The cultural event I am going to discuss in this paper is the Summer Jam 2008 concert. Summer Jam is a concert that consists of a variety of the hottest R&B and Hip Hop performers at the moment. Hip Hop and R&B fanatics attend this concert every year to see the hottest stars and it’s a bargain because usually you can only see one performer at a concert but Summer Jam consists of at least 6 performers. Summer Jam was held at Giants Stadium and was mainly attended by a large ethnic demographic although there were a few whites in attendance. Summer jam was headlined by Kanye West, Jay Z, and LIL Wayne, and other performers included The Dream, Rihanna, Yung Berg, T-pain Ray-J, and the LOX. The crowd was very excited and hyped up to see the performers especially LIL Wayne because he was by far the hottest entertainer out at the moment. The Crowed consisted of men wearing fitted baseball caps, wife beaters, shorts and the newest pair of sneakers they had, and the ladies ranged from everything from dresses to jeans and shorts. The Hip Hop culture was obviously expressed by the crowd’s apparel. As the concert began to start, all you heard playing in the speakers was “A milli, A milli, A Milli”, and the crowed began to go wild then out comes LIL Wayne dressed in a wife beater sagging pants and one of the longest chains around his neck that I have ever seen.
