Early Childhood Education: Personal Statement
I was born and raised in the Commonwealth of Dominica and my interest in working with young children started at a very early age. When I was 8 my mother would take me to a home daycare after school and collect me after she got off work in the evening. It is there that my maternal instincts would begin to show. The children were ages 0-2 years of age and I being the oldest would help care for the little ones by feeding and playing with them. I always looked forward in going there after school. The children made me so happy. As I grew older my desire to work with children became much stronger. In 1989 I came to the United States to study Early Childhood Education and became a preschool teacher at 22. After teaching for 10 years I challenged myself in other areas relating to childcare. I worked as a youth counselor and activities coordinator for Carnival Cruise Lines for 3 years. I also enjoyed being a party planner and entertaining children at parties. Working as a play and music instructor for Gymboree Play and Music was so much fun and I got a lot of babysitting requests from that experience, which opened the door to becoming a nanny. …show more content…

I have a degree in nutrition and like creating healthy meals and snacks for all. I think it is very important to provide a safe, fun and nurturing environment for children. Respect, open communication and trust are very important to me in building a positive and happy relationship with my employers. I look forward in meeting you and your

I enjoyed being with children so much that my first “real-world” paying job was at a summer camp. Between volunteering at the church Vacation Bible School and working at the summer camp I realized I have a great connection with children and can help make a difference in their lives and that is what I seek to do. I have since been employed at a few different childcare facilities along with a music store and book store but no matter what I always found myself returning to working in either a childcare or school…

As my son was finishing up his PreK program the teachers announced their retirement. I quickly knew this was my opportunity to live out my dream of being a preschool teacher. As part of my CDA requirements I needed to spend time in a classroom so I began volunteering in my daughters PreK class. I enjoyed being encouraged to be creative and playful in daily activities and have a substantial input in the classroom curriculum and schedule. I really liked using games, storytelling, and other activities to help children develop language and vocabulary, improve social skills, and learn basic science and math concepts. The highlights of my days volunteering was when I saw a child’s eyes light up when they learn/try something new. When they suddenly were able to make the letters in their name, or do something they weren’t previously able to do, I got as excited as they did. When the children were lined up waiting to come into class, and then run in and give me a hug, it warmed my…
