Example 1 Web Shop

The term "Webshop" also refers to a place of business where web development, web hosting and other types of web related activities take place. Mostly like the normal shops web shops also provide goods which can be purchased online. The benefits over traditional one being

1. Customers have a wider choice as whole internet is accessible at click of mouse.

2. More competition is there as initial set up cost is not much.

3. More substitutes of product are available

The way it works is that there is a service provider which uses some delivery mechanism to be in contact with the customer.

Service Provider has all the data with himself which on request from customer provides the customer with information. Both the request and information has to pass through a common medium to get to the other end which is done using delivery system.

Issues:

1. How to connect to the service provider?

2. How to uniquely identify the service provider and customer?

3. How to send request and information to party concerned?

In general for connecting to service provider customer has to type the URL of Service provider on the browser to connect to it. Both service provider and customer are provided with unique global address through which each can communicate. Some protocol are used by browser and delivery system to send and receive data and to render it in a form useful to each customer and service provider.

Turn Around Time = time to reach service provider (T1) +time taken to serve request (T2) + time for information send (T3) +time for displaying data in format useful to customer (T4)

Time per Customer = T1+T3
