DYSLEXIA

In our society today, the association between bad spelling and stupidity is so strong that it is almost taken for granted. A misspelled public notice, for example, is a trigger for laughter and disapproval; it is commonplace for jokes and cartoons to be based on that association. It is no surprise that if we find one person who have poor literacy skills they will be the center of laughter. But being poor in reading and spelling doesn’t mean that they were stupid or they had some kind of a disease, there’s only some person who has some learning disability.

Learning disability is a neurobiological disorder; it is not a disease. People with Learning Disorder (LD) have brains that learn differently because of differences in brain structure or function. The most popular of the disorder is Dyslexia. Dyslexia is learning disability that manifest primarily as a difficulty with written knowledge particularly with reading and spelling. Dyslexia can occur at any level of intellectual ability. It is not the result of poor motivation, emotional disturbance, sensory impairment or lack of opportunities, but may occur alongside any of these. In this kind of condition, the person may reverse letters, he may also mirror write letters and numbers.

Dyslexia is a developmental disorder which results in difficulties in learning to read, write and spell. Short-term memory, mathematics, concentration, personal organization and sequencing may also be affected. Dyslexia usually arises from a weakness in the processing of language-based information. Biological in origin, it tends to run in families, but environmental factors also contribute. Dyslexia can be overcome by skilled specialist teaching and the use of compensatory strategies.

In other words children with dyslexia or the Dyslexics can’t write well and they can’t read well but they are not stupid. Being dyslexics doesn’t mean or same as being dumb or stupid-labels so often branded on persons with even a hint...
