The article I read was about helping the Hispanic immigrants adapt to American schools. The article was mainly referring to the Hispanic immigrants that had just arrived in the schooling system.
The schooling system gathered several teachers who had experience with diversity in the classroom to help these select students getting used to school. They believe recruiting the Hispanics at an earlier age, makes the process much easier. The teachers then work with the students make the transition from their cultural background based purely on Spanish, into an American cultural background, with American literature, stories, etc.
My view on this probably differs from a lot of people. I do not agree with what they are doing. When we have a schooling problem within the United States already, we're avoiding that problem and helping immigrants. I know that if I went to Mexico, they would not set up special areas in the school to help me adapt. These immigrants are choosing to come over here, and should choose to adapt. I am all for diversity and people coming to America to live their life, but they have to do it on their own. I would understand fully that me moving to another country, whether it be Mexico, England, Australia, etc. it is my job to learn their customs, language, views, and everything else. I should not be treated as special because I immigrated, I should have to work for what I want and accustom myself to their needs instead of my own.
