descriptive essay job corps

When I got out of the Army I took a job as a Security Officer at the Exeter Job Corps. The Job Corps is a place run by the state where young people ages 16 to 25 can go for their High School diploma, GED and vocational training. The Jobs Corps offered competitive wages, a great benefits package and gave troubled kids a second chance at doing something with their lives. What they failed to mention was the Exeter Job Corps was one of the most haunted places in Rhode Island and one of the scariest places I have ever worked.

The Exeter Job Corps was first known as The Ladd School. The Ladd School was built in 1907 for adolescents who were mentally challenged, had a mental or physical disorder or were socially and/or morally troubled. Students were taught factory and farm work until they were considered rehabilitated enough to be put back into society. The school became over-crowded and under-staffed; it became less like an educational facility and became more like a disciplinary school. The school was under investigation for abuse, neglect and there was also suspected murders that took place. In 1994, the school was closed for good. Several years later the Ladd School was rebuilt and turned into the Exeter Job Corps.

I started working for the Job Corps as a security officer in 2005. My job as a security officer was to make sure the students stayed on campus and during the night time, patrol the facility to make sure the buildings were locked. Talking to the students they informed me that the campus was haunted and that strange things happened at the Job Corps. I was told that new students who moved into the dormitory would wake up with scratches on them. Students have heard voices that were whispering, talking, and even screaming. Some students claim to have been touched or grabbed when nobody else was around to do so. New to the facility, I assumed the students were trying to tease me so I paid

What’s better to chill out a hot summer’s day than something sweet and cool? No, I am not talking about a Popsicle. I am not talking about an ice cream cone, either. I am not even talking about iced tea or lemonade. It is something better than all of those, and it doesn’t even have all the sneaky calories of those other tasty treats! The answer to the question is simple. Have you guessed it? It is a cherry.…

I agree this program offers a second chance. Everyone deserves a second chance for success. The youth are the future of tomorrow and if the community and government are not willing to invest in the youth, it will be hard to reach success. The program is also helpful in helping the youth decide on a career. A lot of times, when kids drop out of high school, they lack the motivation to pursue a career. Job corps has a variety of options one can look into and that will help get the training and provide jobs that can last a lifetime. I do like how the job corps has on campus living. I think it gives the youth a college campus experience; it teaches the youth responsibility. If there was another reform about the policy it would be to raise the minimum…

My first reason for attending Job Corps was I did not pass the high school graduation test. When I did not pass the test, I felt very depressed. A goal that I had worked toward for more than 12 years seemed like I could not accomplish, for the sake of having a better future, for my son and I,. However, I would not accept defeat, and will not ever accept defeat with anything that I do, . I was determined to regroup and reorganize my priorities. For this reason I decided to push myself to attend Job Corps to finish my education. This decision was a big change in my life; a chance to better myself. Prior to coming to Job Corps, I went to another alternative school in College Park, Georgia, McClarin High School.. This was not a bad decision for me. I just felt that at the time, it was not meant to be. I was also experiencing some personal issues. Due to personal circumstances, I did not complete that educational program. So on May 24, 2011, the day that I entered the Job Corps, I knew that this pursuit would be the second best thing to happen to me in life.…
