Active volcanoes remain in Kava which poses a threat by continuing to erupt, spewing molten ash triggering occasional fires, and concealing explosive gases which implode far below the surface of Kava creating seismic waves contributing to earthquakes of varying magnitude. In addition, Kava has petroleum fields which lead to occasional spills affecting other important commodities such as fishing and tourism.   Socially, with 50 percent of the population under the age of 15, there is the concern of a lack of people available to the workforce in Kava {text:bookmark-start} . (University of Phoenix, 2008) {text:bookmark-end} Although the site will be scaled down, and minors will be available for the harvesting part of the operation, there will still be a need for a large number of adult citizens to operate machinery, fill technical, factory, and administrative positions, and operate vehicles. A large number of people are affected by the HIV virus and the fact that children and young adults are more susceptible to avian flu, which is more widespread in Kava, is another concern.
