A Day Without A Mexican

In the movie A Day Without A Mexican, it shows how Californians would be without the help of Latino workers. Many people are lost and do not know how to do the simple things in life because they have some one else do it for them. This movie shows how people rely on Latinos to do jobs that most people to do not want to do. It also shows the illegal immigrants that come into California to work on the farms and fields to pick the fruits and vegetables for the market. There are many issues of race and dealing with prejudice and discrimination because of being Hispanic.
The film has a series of statements which are written in white text on the screen throughout the film. These statements include: Not all Hispanics are Mexicans. There are forty countries south of the United States/Mexico border which means that Guatemalans and Hondurans are not Mexicans. Twenty percent of the California school teachers teaching kindergarten to grade twelve are Hispanic. Eight of the Los Angeles Dodgers are Latino, (Dominicans and Puerto Ricans are Latinos). Senator Shaw, a character in the movie, is a "closet Latino." The character is made up, but 'closet-Latinos' abound. Although lately it has been a plus for politicians to be Latino, or at least to speak basic Spanish to help get the Latino vote. It is presumed that every Hispanic on the west coast is Mexican, but it is not a fact. Hollywood is not California's number one industry, Agriculture is. Of the construction workers in California thirty-four percent of the workers are Hispanic. Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, Wyoming, and Texas used to be part of Mexico. The wall that is at the United States/Mexico Border is twelve feet high and is made out of recycled Gulf War landing plates. Many of these statements that are made in the movie are true facts. It just seems like that society is uneducated on the subject that Latinos do not just come from one country and a lot of people believe...
