INTRODUCTION

“Data mining involves the use of sophisticated data analysis tools to discover previously unknown, valid patterns and relationships in large data set.”1 Data mining is a process of finding out different interesting and potentially useful information which are previously unknown from the collection of data. It uses automated data analysis technique and create a relationship among the data items which could help in effective decision making. In short, data mining means gathering information, analyzing the same and summarizing it. This information is used mainly to increase the revenue, to cut the costs or for both the things simultaneously. It is also known as “Knowledge Discovery in Databases (KDD). Data mining is actually a part of knowledge discovery in databases. It allows the company to take the control of the data generated from the normal business processes and use it effectively to create knowledge for solving business problems. Data miming can be used to achieve many different objectives by using one or more algorithms. It helps to predict the future through the discovery of trends and patterns in the data.
