Divestment in Darfur is one of the most cruel, viscous crimes I have ever heard of. How is it that so many companies can give money to fund weapons for genocide? How come there are so many countries that don’t try to put a stop to it? To many people these days have the attitude of “I’m not the one over there so it really don’t matter to me”. What if it was you or your family getting brutally raped, murdered, and beaten? I bet your attitude would change then. If people could go for one day and see what it is like over there they would think twice about where they put their money and who it is affecting. Like Jennifer said in the opening many people are unaware of who they are investing their money in and it is our job to bring it to their attention. We can help stop divestment in Darfur. So next time you invest your money in a company, or buy gas from some major company take a 5 minutes to read about them and see where your money will go. This horrible crime will only stop if we make it stop and fight against these major corporations who are letting it continue. I hope that my fellow students and I have brought this issue to the front of your mind and showed you how serious it really is and that you will try to take a stand against divestment. Thank you for your time.
