Current Business Research Project Paper

Communication is a necessary aspect of life; however, being able to communicate effectively and cohesively is a learned trait. Communication is being able to both understand what is being said, as well as having the ability to state what is on one’s mind so that others understand. In the education arena, educators are successful when they are able to convey information in ways that it is understood by students. The research project this paper will discuss has to do with the question of whether or not students learn better one on one with instructors, or in a team environment. The question posed is whether or not the communication coming from the instructor is enough for the student to do well in the class or, if by working in a team environment with several different understandings and interpretations of the instructor’s communication, will the student perform better and ultimately achieve a better grade.
Colleges today are examining whether or not to require students to work in learning teams also known as learning communities, and whether or not learning teams are beneficial to the students. According to the article by Laura Janusik and Andrew Wolvin (2007), they suggest that the times of an instructor standing in front of a class and reciting information to be memorized or ingested by students is extinct. Janusik and Wolvin continue to suggest that by encouraging students to work in learning teams, students have a higher motivation among other things and have a higher rate of success.
The data method of collection that Janusik and Wolvin used was participation by current active college students. Janusik and Wolvin recruited 89 undergraduate students.
