Abigail Williams, a teenage orphan who uses lies to bring down the Proctor family denotes the theme of vengeful. Abigail was an adulterous . Her love affair with John Proctor caused her emotions to spur wanting Elizabeth Proctor dead. Abigail used manipulation and lies to deceive her friends and the entire town. Abigail threatened to kill any of her friends if they mentioned anything about witchcraft and she even blamed Tituba for witchcraft. In addition, Abigail was selfish. In order to keep her innocence, she accused different people of doing witchcraft and "being with the devil." She also tried to kill Elizabeth Proctor with a curse thinking that if she was dead John would be all hers.
John Proctor, whose affair with a teenage girl caused the start of chaotic and accusation in the town of Salem, demonstrates fortitude. Even after the town’s recognition of his affair with Abigail Williams, Proctor kept his honesty. He realized his mistake and2
was honest and admitted to his wife Elizabeth. Proctor also has loyalty. When the marshals Herrick and Cheever came to arrest his wife, he stuck with her to protect her.
John Hale, a knowledgeable man who planned to resolve the witch hunt in Salem, delineates the theme of pious. Hale was a determined man. His perseverance to diminish the town of witchcraft was unstoppable. Also, Hale was faithful. He had faith and believed in the court system. Hale was a responsible man. When he realized that Proctor’s confession to witchcraft was false, he tried to defend his innocence at all costs.
