Perception can be a reality sometimes but not always. When we hear or see an event, many things goes through our minds which includes cognitive and misinterpretations of the actual event and when the event is perceived wrongly it leads us astray by creating incorrect assumptions in our minds.
I have a recent instance at my workplace where what I perceived of the situation was far from the actual reality. Sometimes early this year at my job, the company was cutting down on their expenses and the management has decided to lay off some employees in other to reduce salary expenses. At that time, my manager assigned a project to me to process certain customer’s billings and invoice summaries. I was so busy at the time and I did not want to tell my manager that at the time, there are so many things going through my mind that what would my manager says if I tell him I am too busy. With that in my mind, I accepted the project from my manager and then give it to someone else to do that for me and I did not follow up with her to see how she was doing but I just assume that she knows how to go about it because she did not ask for help. Unfortunately, my co-worker messed up the whole report for the customer and this makes many people upset about these mistakes. The report has to do with one of our very important customer and with what the company was going through at the time they do not want to get any of the customers upset. I was called into my manager’s office to explain myself and also I was summon to a meeting with the senior management to explain what happen and to apologize.
Many things was going through my mind as all the meetings were going on, I just perceived that I will be among those that will be laid off after what I did. Several other meetings were held but after about three weeks I came in on a Friday morning and the human resources department have already started giving letters and packages to those that are being laid off.
