Leadership in general requires courage. Courage is defined in Merriam-Webster Collegiate Dictionary as a mental or moral strength to venture, persevere, and withstand danger, fear, or difficulty. (Merriam-Webster Collegiate Dictionary) Physical courage is courage in the face of physical pain, hardship, death, or threat of death, while moral courage is the ability to act rightly in the face of popular opposition, shame, scandal, or discouragement. To be effective in market management requires courage. It requires elements of the same type of courage mentioned in the book of Joshua when Joshua was commissioned to lead the Children of Israel into the promise land. God knew Joshua needed encouragement for the task of leading this group and said to him, "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go." (Joshua 1:9 New International Version). Why did God encourage Joshua to be courageous? Because God knew courage would be required of him as the new leader of the Children of Israel. He would need courage to take risks, to react differently to challenges than others, and to be a man of action. These are also areas that require courage for those who lead companies in marketing services and products. Joshua would need courage to lead the Children of Israel despite the risks that would be involved. Joshua knew there would be battles to fight and sacrifices to be made. He was one the original twelve spies in Numbers chapter 13 that went to explore and investigate the land that was promised to them. He saw, along with the others, what they reported. “But the people who live there are powerful and the cities are fortified and very large. We even saw the descendants of Anak there.”

For a younger character, like Scout, courage is most often associated with a physical act that is usually dangerous. It is hard for young children like that to realize that greater courage can be shown in other aspects of life. Scout sees an example of courage in her father when he shoots the mad dog. Although Atticus does not think of it as very courageous, Jem and Scout are proud of their father and the courage he showed in the dangerous situation. Atticus knows that the dog did not stand a chance; it was delirious so therefore could not think straight. In addition, he was holding a gun; the odds were stacked too highly on his side for his liking. He was not trying to prove a point, he was merely fulfilling his civic duty, yet they were still…

Courage is a human concept that involves the very nature of doing something no matter how difficult it is and having the strength to do it. Another example, of courage is when NightJohn ran away to go teach other people to read and write. It was even more courageous of him to come back at night and tell Sarny this “Follow me. We got to go so’s you can get back before first light” (page 85). NightJohn put his life at risk just to teach a girl to read and write, and risked her life just to live a little like the whites do. NightJohn didn’t have to come back to Sarny, but the amount of courage he has told him to go back, and make her happy and teach her.…

From the time of his birth, Moses had many experiences that uniquely prepared him to lead the Israelites out of Egypt. Moses was adopted by Pharaoh’s daughter and brought up in the king’s household. He learned by observing his adopted grandfather the meaning of authority and leadership. Moses received the best available education in the ancient world. Later, after he was forced to leave Egypt, Moses learned about life in the desert while working as a shepherd. Moses would use everything that he learned from these life experiences to lead his people out of Egypt. All of these experiences that prepared Moses for leadership were a part of God’s unique plan and purpose for Moses’ life. Psalm 139:16 tells us, “All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.” God has given you your life experiences to prepare you for the vision that He has given to you. God is not finished. He will continue to give you experiences that will mold you into the person that God wants you to become. God is making you into person who will resemble Jesus and who will give glory to…

In contrasting perspectives, courage can be defined as a lot of things. What does it mean to you? Boo Radley, in my assumption, is the most courageous character in the classic novel; To kill a mockingbird. One reason why I think that Boo Radley is the bravest, courageous character; he risked his life to save Jem and Scout from Bob Euell. Although many would assume that he's cowardly since he stays in his residence for years, he came out and saved the kids. On the night when Thier neighbour's, miss Maudie, house burned down, Boo Radley gave Scout a blanket(since it was cold)without her even know he gave it to her. Another and my final reason is that he brought Jem and Scout to their home and he talked to Atticus and the sheriff. Although this…

Moral courage: is the ability to act rightly in the face of popular opposition, shame, scandal, or discouragement. This is the courage many people face on an everyday basis, always doing what is right regardless of the consequences faced. Most people have a hard time doing the right thing when doing the opposite is easier matter how hard it is, and regardless of being judged. This is mostly because of human nature to care for their selves before others. For example, a group of guys walk down the street and watch a man’s wallet fall from his pocket. The right thing to do is pick it up and return it back to the man. Because, there are a group of guys the better option is to walk away with the wallet. Therefore, your moral courage is questioned. All it takes is one person taking a stand for doing the right thing.…

    Leadership In The Aeneid

Since the beginning of time, humans have always depended on leadership for survival. Citizens follow governments, armies need generals to lead them into battle, and businesses need executive officers. However, just because someone leads others does not mean that he possesses the correct qualities for being a true leader. In order to understand what qualifies as a good leader, one must first define the qualities needed in good leadership. Often times in literature, leaders come across as heroic, but just saving people from an oncoming danger does not truly make on a good leader. On the contrary, the individual and heroic performances of a leader accomplish almost nothing if a leader does not put the needs of his people at the forefront of his endeavors. In light of this, an excellent leader possesses the ability to bring out the best of his people, and the ability to create a positive atmosphere.…
