The computer store that I visited for this week assignment has a variety of products that represented major component of an information systems which is a “set of interrelated components that collect, manipulate, store, and disseminate data and information and provide feedback mechanism to meet an objective” (Stair & Reynold, 2003, p. 4) comprising of various types of computers, printers, case, motherboard, processor, RAM, I/O cards , keyboard and mouse, operating system, applications monitors, software and hardware of computer components that range from different model and prices.
Representing a current product of an input system component of which “the activity of gathering and capturing raw material” (Stair & Reynold, 2003, p.7) is the 107 keys keyboard designed to simplify working with Windows. Two of these keys, next to the Alt keys, bring up the Start menu. The third key, next to the right Ctrl key, brings up a menu of functions that are frequently accessed in whichever application is currently being used.
The current product that represent a storage system component of which “involves keeping data and information” (Stair & Reynold, 2003, p. 8) is the Digital Versatile Disc-Random Access Memory (DVD-RAM) drive that can record data on recordable Digital Versatile Disc (DVD). The speed of a Digital Versatile Disc- Read Only Memory (DVD-ROM) Drives determine how quickly data can transfer from a disc to the computer. Current DVD-ROM drives commonly have a speed of 6X.
Representing the current product of an output system component of which “involves producing useful information, usually in the form of a documents and reports” (Stair & Reynold, 2003, p.8) is the monitor. Output can be categorized as soft copy which is ideal when writing a document, media games and video, as well reading on display news, and the other category is hard copy in the form of paper output.
