Is There A New King of Comedy?
Prime time television has always been a battle for the top ratings, each station pushing their new shows to capture Americans attention. In the realm of animated series one show was in the prime time spot light for many years, The Simpson. Since its creation in the 80’s it has been a household name, though during the Late 90’s a new animated comedy emerged to test the waters of animated prime time. The Family Guy brought forth a new generation of comedy to try and take that title of the top animated show on prime time television. Since Family Guy’s first appearance it has been a topic of discussion. The Family Guy and The Simpson’s are two of the best animated comedies to date; though they are so closely related to one another, the Family Guy has captivated the American public.
Each shows main father figures are closely related to each other. Peter Griffin, the main father character in the Family Guy has shown what it means to be mentally challenged, borderline stupid, and loaded with punch lines. His absence of intelligence makes him a very humorous character. In the same way Homer Simpson set the standard for the epitome of stupid. His little catch phrases like “doh” and “why you little” has left America laughing for years. Homer’s way of thinking, or lack of, helped make his way into the hearts of millions.
Similarly, each show has its main duo of central characters. Stewie and Brian are by far the best combo on the Family Guy. Stewie is an over-intelligent infant with a football shaped head, constantly plotting on the many elaborate ways to kill his mother Lois and always torturing Brian. Stewie is very lost in his sexual orientation and seems like he doesn’t belong in the Griffin family. Brian is a talking dog who seems to have more common sense than the rest of the family. He’s a heavy alcoholic and somewhat of a socialite, together these two have some of the most outrageous and hilarious...
