Compare and Contrast
I will compare and contrast two different ancient art pieces. The first piece is Ebih-11, the Superintended of Mari. This statuette is also a small alabaster statue. The Near Eastern date for this piece of art is 2400 BC circa. The second piece is a Standing Buddha. This mottled red sandstone sculpture is a medium sized. This South Asians date for this piece of art is 321-500 AD circa.
The Ebih-11, the Superintended of Mari is about 0.52m in height; it is a half-naked person sitting on a wicker basket, which is on a square, it also has two other squares one is long ways. Maybe this represents legs and the other is under it. Whereas the Standing Buddha is about 33 11/16 in height, she is standing fully clothed. These two pieces are made out of stone, they both are a human figure and they both represent some kind of religion. Both of these figures are truly different in size, color, what they represent and the different century they came from.
The Ebih-11, the Superintended of Mari is a naturalistic in the body; the chest, the arms and hands, the face like the nose, mouth and eyes. This statue has a belly button so this tells you that the top half has no clothes on. For the bottom, half they use either sheepskin or goatskin as long it simulates some kind of fleece from an animal. This man is bald, and has a beard. The statue has some kind of marking on the back of them letting people know what role the played in society. In the Mari, this means that it was only for men and women were anonymous. They were depicted either as standing or as sitting statue.
The Standing Buddha is a naturalistic in areas of the body; the rounded cheeks, the almond eyes, the full raised lips, the nose that is wide raised. This figure has smooth lines and curves that flow together in a geometric way. Her hair looks like it has little rosebuds then it is pull up in a bun. Her ear lobes are hanging very low with holes...
