Final Exam
It is beneficial for a person to walk in another person’s shoes and visa versa because it lets a person see a totally different perspective of another life. This perspective could be a negative one or it could turn out for the best. Walking in another person’s shoes let’s the person walk in them see how there are other ways of life besides the one they are living in. Writing about this topic not only makes me think of “Nickel and Dimed” as an example but it also makes me think of a television show called ‘Trading Spouses.”
The main idea of the show is to take either a wife or husband of a family and switch them with another wife or family with a totally different background, different beliefs, and a different way of life or living. It makes the espoused walk in different shoes. This show sometimes has positive influences and sometimes-negative influences. It is an experience in it’s self to be able to walk in another person’s shows and that is what this television show portrays.
In the book “Nickel and Dimed,” Barbara Ehrenceich walked in the shoes of an uneducated female. She tried to live a totally different life style as an experiment and I also believe she did this study to prove that America is not the greatest country in the world because we to have poverty stricken communities even though the people do work 3 different jobs to keep their families surviving. She struggled to find a place for herself in lower class parts of the country. It seemed as if she was looking for answer as to why this country has poverty stricken communities, and also why do people struggle to survive in this country when they shouldn’t have to.
The greatest life lesson she learned form her experiences were that a person would not get far with only a little education behind them. She learned that a person should at least graduate with a high school degree to get some type of good paying job. Without some sort of degree a...
