Project: Harmony Fiesta – Celebrating Our Diversity through Arts & Food

Background
Harmony Fiesta was held at the Ulu Pandan Community Club on the 14th of July 2007. The slogan for the event was “Celebrating Our Diversity through Arts & Food”. Harmony Fiesta was a racial harmony event where people from all walks of life could attend and enjoy the range of activities, performances and food made available to them.
Our target groups for this event were the residents staying near Ulu Pandan Community Club.
The main activities of the event were the performances, food-sampling, and story-telling sessions. All these activities helped to promote the diversity of the various cultures in Singapore. My responsibilities for the event included directing the caterers towards their respective food stalls as well as assisting one of the food stalls which had kindergarten teachers and their students preparing delicious Indian delicacies. I also had to help decorate the food-sampling area with traditional ethnic items. In addition, I had to explain to the guest-of-honour the origins of some of the food available that day.
Olympic Dreams 2007 was a fund-raising project initiated by the Student Volunteer Corps (SVC). It was held at Toa Payoh Stadium on the 15th of July 2007. The slogan for the event was “Around the World in 100,000 laps”. The main aims of the project were to raise funds for the Singapore Disability Sports Council (SDSC) as well as to raise awareness of disability sports in Singapore. Our main target group was the general public in Singapore.
My responsibilities included sourcing for donors to pledge donations for the number of laps I was planning to run, as well as trying to cover as many laps as possible during the actual event itself. In doing so, I was able to raise the awareness of disability...
