Doctor and patient relationships My healthcare provider show confidence when interacting with me, the patient, by using paralanguage. The tone and volume of his voice is calm, he speaks with confidence while explaining an illness or new medication. His paralanguage gives me a sense of assurancance. I am confident that my healthcare provider know what he is doing and I trust him. My healthcare provider also shows confidence by using regulator communication with comforting body language, he maintains calm and collective. In this situation he seems uncomfortable and nerves. He shows signs in his body language that he is intimidated by crossing his arms or tapping his foot with frustration. I use therapeutic communication by making myself available to my patient and showing interest in their concern such as asking about their pain every hour or asking if they need water/ snacks when necessary. I also ask about similarities and difference in event such as “Is the numbness you’re having today worse or the same from that of yesterday?” I was actively alert and paying attention to my patient’s verbal and nonverbal communication. I did clarification and validating of the patient information by stating” I learn that you have a pass word for your…

I have not personally had an animal diagnosed with heart disease at my clinic, where I had to have a conversation with an owner about a diet change, so I did my best with this post to imagine the different things I would want to be sure to tell an owner about heart disease and how I would want to make sure they understood the importance of changing their animal’s diet. One of the first things I would try to do is find out what type of food and treats they were currently giving to their animal and find out the sodium content of that food and treats. This way I could identify the areas they need to change, and I would also be able to see if there is anything they are currently giving to their animal that they could still give occasionally. I…

1.2 If we don’t communicate well it limits the ability to connect with each other making you feel isolated and not part of a team, but the bit we need to think about is if there is no communication through staff we may miss the needs of the child. Positive communications and relationships with a number of people not just parents/carers but without side agencies too will all work together. If you have good communication skills then your relationship with the child/parent/carer will be good. When you communicate clearly and effectively then this allows others to do the same and then sharing information, expressing your needs/concerns/feeling, and not feeling left out will become easy.…

A lot of factors play a huge role when it comes to good communication. The first factor is that it gains trust. Trust is something that is important to gain because without it, the patient might not feel comfortable to tell you things. For example, once I had a patient who was really shy. However, over time I got to know her and once she became comfortable enough to tell me things. The one thing that she told me was that she was a huge smoker, something that she denied when I first met her. So this trust that I gained with her, gave me information about herself that was useful when it came to taking care of her. Another factor is that it increases patient satisfaction. I know that this sounds silly, but working as a cashier at CVS…

I recently admitted a 59 year old male with suicidal ideation. As I was assessing my patient, he told me that he was a type 2 diabetic who checks his bloodsugars with meals and uses Insulin for coverage. He was concerned that his readings at home have been elevated and has not had an appetite for the last two days. I used the glucometer to check his chemstick which was 285. I called the admitting doctor and the Hospitalist to report my findings and the result of the bloodsugar. As a nursing intervention, I ordered a Nutrition consult. The dieticiton came and discussed meal choices that were appealing to the patient. The Hospitalist came to see the patient and ordered Humalog sliding scale coverage and point of care testing before meals…
