My Impression of the Coca Cola Operations
My impression of the operations at Coca Cola is a mix of many emotions and concepts that you would expect for a large global corporation. Surely the reason this question was asked is due to “a suit in the United States that accuses Coca-Cola and some bottlers here of using a right-wing paramilitary group to intimidate and, in some cases, assassinate labor organizers.” (NY Times, 2001) Because of all this the Coca Cola Corporation has been under great scrutiny and has realized a series of negative public concerns.
I feel that any successful corporation, especially one on the Fortune 500 list is going to face many challenges and accusations, Coca Cola is no different. The Coca Cola company has faced many controversies in regards to human rights while some of these cases were dismissed others were actually settled out of court. The Corporation has faced issues of discrimination, and its relation to the Middle East and United States foreign policies. It has been accused of using “thugs” to stop unions from forming in Columbia, and have been accused of a string of environmental damages such as overusing local water supplies.
My personal impression is that with any major power the possibility of corruption and a certain amount of “bullying” will happen. What I am most concern with is how they handle their future operations. If they continue to be a discriminatory operation they will eventually cause their own downfall. Some thing that could actually bring a corporation to its knees is the sins committed against the people, a strong force that needs to be recognized by them and their leaders.
