Co-Eded Sports Should Not Be Divided By Gender
Many people may argue that by now sports should no longer be divided by gender. However there is plenty of evidence that co-ed sports may not be that great after all. There are multiple reasons as to why mixed gender sports should not be a mainstream thing. Sports should remain segregated by gender due to the lack of inclusion in co-ed sports, the safety risks mixed gender sports can pose, and the difference in body structure between men and women.
It has been noticed by many people that even when boys and girls play sports together on the same team there is still somewhat of a division. They are on the same team, wear the same uniforms, and run the same plays, however somewhere along the line they seem to divide. Socially speaking, physical aggression from girls is seen as less acceptable than boys, so when playing on a team of boys a girl might play less aggressively for fear of judgement. For some girls, playing on a mixed gender team is more stressful and difficult, making it harder for them to play to their full potential. Fear of failure or judgment is a large part of it, as well as the physical side of things. Boys on co-ed sports teams may fear either failing in front of girls who are on the team or accidentally hurting them, and as a result they tend to play less aggressively and more timid, which can be seen as a decrease of athletic ability. In sports there are very often fights and disagreements. Men have a higher chance of physically fighting then a woman would. If there is a woman on a men’s team there is a higher chance for her to get hurt. Boys also play sports in general more physically, and girls in these sports have a hard time keeping up and trying not to get
