1. Teaching is the process in which a person deliberately arranges a set of actions and elements that will be expose to a learner, and cause a change in his/ her behavior or the ability to perform new skills. Teaching can be affected by interpersonal communication, therefore the person must be prepare and had already assess the situation or predisposition of the learner (Potter, Perry, 2002 p474; Dirksen, Heitkemper, Lewis, 2004 p44).
Learning is the process by which a person acquires new knowledge that will help change his/her behavior or will develop new skills. There are three domains for learning the first one being, cognitive learning, which includes all the behaviors of intelligence; these behaviors are knowledge, comprehension, application, analysis, synthesis, and evaluation; the second domain is deals with the acceptance of feelings and opinions affective learning it like receiving, responding, valuing organizing, and characterizing; the last domain is psychomotor learning which involves the skills require for the integration of mental and muscular activity; these skills are perception, set, guided response, mechanism, complex overt response, adaptation, organization. Learning can be affected by the environment in which the learner is his /her motivation and the ability to learn (potter, Perry, 2002 p474; Dirksen, Heitkemper, Lewis, 2004 p44).
2. "In a patient's bill of rights, the American hospital association (1992) indicates
that, clients have the right to make informed decisions about their care" (Potter, Perry, 2002 p474). Therefore nurses have an ethical responsibility to teach their patients about their condition, care, and treatment. A nurse must carefully assess and evaluate their patient's need in order for education to be effective; an individualized plan should be done and implemented, and finally an evaluation should be done to identify if goals have been achieved (Potter, Perry, 2002 p474; Dirksen, Heitkemper,...
