Classical Music, popular term for the Western tradition of art music that began in Europe in the Middle Ages and continues today. It includes symphonies, chamber music, opera, and other serious, artistic music. More narrowly, the “classical” style refers to the work of the Viennese classical school, a group of 18th-century composers that includes Joseph Haydn, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and Ludwig van Beethoven, which is the epitome of what is called classical music.

Beethoven contributed to almost every genre of music at the time, including piano sonata, string quartet, and symphony. He expanded the symphony with regard to form, orchestration, texture, and aesthetics, contributing programmatic elements to an otherwise self-contained style.
The Classical 'period' of music existed between 1730 and 1820. the main distinction between classical music and pop music is that classical music has more complex structures. Classical music typically focuses on classical traditions, formal styles and is technically very complex. The term "classical music" wasn't used until the early 19th century when there was an attempt to canonize the period from the composer Bach to the composer Beethoven.

Indian classical music:
The term "Indian Classical Music" refers to two related, but distinct, traditions rooted in antiquity. Both are very much alive in India today. The North Indian style is known as "Hindustani", while the South Indian tradition is referred to as "Carnatic".
